Oh, I still think not. I think video game gore is different than ACTUAL gore. I have a phobia for actual gore so personally I see a difference in video game violence versus real-life violence. I could see violence in movies being a bit more problematic as little kids might think it is real whereas video games are viewed as games, not real life. Though...video games do have age restrictions in place. I think gore in video games is one thing but a whole other topic is games with persistent gore for no reason. What games are you referring to? FPS games in general?

as a person that's hardcore into horror and anything that contains gore, i can assure you violent behavior depends on individual people and their upbringing
a teenager that's been taught to be kind from a young age or just someone who's parents aren't absolute shitheads isn't going to start dismembering people overnight because of a videogame
now that's way different with kids, since they tend to be influenced easily and don't have as much of a concept of fiction vs reality in most cases. i was an edgy kid and i am not proud of some things i did, although they did teach me valuable lessons on how to be a functional member of society and still enjoy the things i do :^)
it's why there's age restrictions in most things nowadays! although i believe if parents educated and loved their children properly it wouldn't be as needed

the only influence they really have is harboring the already existing violence in our society, imo. someone committing an act of harm is likely influenced by multiple things in their personal life, and its not inherently going to be the video games fault. i think this whole debate should be putting the pressure on parents/guardians/loved ones who should be monitoring and giving the proper support and care, rather than the creators.

Definitely not! People who say they do are just looking for something to blame it on

nah. people are constantly seeking out a boogeyman to pin societal issues on. used to be rock n roll, heavy metal... people attributing allegedly satanic behaviors to harry potter (rowling is kinda scummy. not defending her, just using her product an example) and all that.

though, if one, maybe a gamer, for instance, wants to do bad things and is hellbent on doing them, it's still not the fault of their hobby. folks gotta keep their eyes peeled for signs and also like... therapy should be more accessible so those people can at least try to get help.

if anything, video games are meant for escapism. how one chooses to escape is their choice and oftentimes not a completely accurate reflection of who they are.

I don't have the time or motivation to go hunt down all the research mentioned in the article linked here, and on video game violence's effect on people, but here's a few things common effin' sense will tell you.

First of all, if a 10 year old plays an online shooter game with an age restriction of pg 16/18, they are likelier to be influenced by things like their fellow players cussing, bullying each other, and spewing otherwise hateful comments, and the violence shown in the video game. Why? Because children are more impressionable. Not stupid, a 10 year old understands very well that yelling "you're a fag" at someone is not appropriate, but a 10 year old might not actually comprehend why it's hurtful, and may very well end up becoming so desensitized to the language that when they are older they still will not understand why it's such a "big deal".

Secondly, I do not believe video games actually cause violent behaviour. By violent behaviour I mean physically hurting others, and intentionally abusive behaviour. Aggressive people might play video games, and be drawn to them for the spaces where they can anonymously be hateful and the cinematic gore, but I have seen no evidence to imply that the games were the cause of their violence. Fact is teenagers and adults are not complete morons (I know, it's really hard to believe sometimes), and have the cognitive ability to separate fiction from reality, just like we do when we read stories and watch movies.

Finally, whenever this topic comes up in mainstream media it's because a politician or some other dimwitted individual wants to distract you from the fact that, on a systematic level, our society and governments cause and enable violence when it suits them. We've created an environment that actively encourages men to repress emotions, belittles them for showing any humanity, and denies them physical and emotional intimacy. What the f did you think was gonna happen? I'm not even gonna get into gun control, classism, racism, poverty, the profit to be made from the weapons market, and the American glorification of the military. Because I'm tired and I don't have hours to spend on reading up on articles that explain in pretty words how these various things cause aggression in people. Suffice to say when life sucks sometimes people use violence to channel how crap they feel. Video games are escapist, and a good alternative for the violence.
