Sooo I was selling something.. And it completely slipped my mind someone asked for it before this other person did, so I explained the situation to them as best I could. They weren't able to pay me till friday because they told me they didn't have the money yet and I hadn't 100% confirmed it was theirs yet anyway, it had only been a few minutes so I didn't see the problem... Then this conversation happened.. Read from the bottom up! Removed all names. I was selling it on a forum and it was only a character (literally it was a digital drawing of a character that if sold would belong to them)

The other person had asked for it a couple months back and it had slipped my mind, which was totally my fault but still. This person just would not take no for an answer and I ended up having to block them because ngl they actually started to scare me a little bit. I just... How do you deal with a person when they act like that?

Anyone else ever had to deal with a person acting like that? I can only imagine what working in customer service feels like.

My first thought is, why did the original interested party wait so long to pay you?
You had every right to offer your artwork the the next interested buyer.

Internet transactions are worrisome in the first place.  For one:  Just because someone wants to buy something that really isn't a tangible object or asset, doesn't imply a contract between the seller or the purchaser.  The one with the money first in hand gets the sale.  It really is that simple.   Besides that, as the artist  you decided the fate of your art.

I've sold things at a loss before in real life sales just because someone had cash on hand.  Especially when there is a history of positive sales transactions.   I also wouldn't put up with payments promised for 2 months ether.  You owe nothing to the first interested buyer, and I hope you don't lose any sleep over selling your art to the highest bidder.   Remember the old adage," buyer beware " ?   Due to the inherent 'flakiness' of internet consumers a new adage should be made too.  The seller has every reason to doubt a sale till pay-pal deposits the money in your account.  Only then can a sale be final.

Me and my husband went through something similar while we lived in England and had to regime our dog. We had several calls, but we never told anyone that it was theirs. This one woman called and we said we might be stopping by London on the weekend if we didn't give her away before then. And we did give her away on the that Wednesday. So this crazy woman calls my husband up screaming at him that it's his fault her kid is crying, because they told everyone they were getting a dog lol. She told him that he needed to come down there and tell her son he wasn't getting a dog anymore. He saved the voice mail, it was priceless.

Sounds like a person desperately wanting you to change your mind, Remi, nevermind that they have already lost the race. You apologized and gently explained it, at which point the Friday buyer could have caught the hint. It was nice of you to let them off easy, because, as it looks to me, that adoptable of yours had a real fan there, one who was very happy to get to have it, and who now doesn't. I'm not trying to make you feel guilty, btw. Who you sell to is your choice, and yours alone. In my time, I have experienced some seriously aggressive responses and met some seriously angry-at-me people, so maybe I'm merely blunted when it comes to people who aren't even hurling insults and not so subtly disguised death threats. -_-"

Oh, but I think the worst was when I was in a car accident, and in the end, everything about a car accident is about responsibility and money. I wasn't the one in the car, I was driven into. It was a unique feeling of puzzlement and shock, a temporary sense of relief when I thought I had turned my body just right, so I wouldn't be hit -- and then I was suddenly in the air, doing a somersault. All this couldn't have taken more than a few seconds, but the array of thoughts and emotions I felt during them was rich. Until I hit the ground and broke my left elbow. Didn't really understand that at first, either, just tried to get up and, as this formidable pain shot through my left arm with unrivaled accuracy, went back down and stayed down. So I got hit by a car and seriously injured, was taken to a hospital where I was put under so someone could do something about that elbow of mine, and the woman that hit me didn't miss a beat after I was awake and lucid to accuse me of having deliberately run out in front of her car so I would get hit. Woman screamed her head off until two male nurses dragged her out and the doctor came and said, "Well, that was exciting." Sure was. I supposed she was in shock, but guess what, so was I. It didn't end there. I got phone calls from her after I was discharged from the hospital, and on the accident report she put me down as "accident perpetrator." It was a real mess, but since she somehow couldn't help herself, she even wrote letters to the judge that showed how unhinged she was (and probably still is). These days she doesn't call anymore, leaves me alone, and that's super-fine with me.

If you have to get hit by a car, try not to get hit by a crazy person. It's best to avoid accidents in the first place, but if there is no way around, pray for sanity.

Oh no I totally realised it was my fault, I had completely forgotten I already promised to sell it to the original buyer and I definitely felt bad for the friday buyer. That is until they started getting rude. But I mean, the other person /did/ ask for it before they did. But all in all, its just a drawing and there definitely was no need to get angry about it. But such is life!

Also oh my god that does not sound good! I know when people have an accident they usually try to find someone to blame but.. blaming the person they hit? whaa... Hope your elbows okay now though!

Well, we can't really say "it's just a drawing" when there is someone who places such value on it, and value lies in the eye of the beholder. There was happiness attached to that drawing, and a level of excitement that only looking forward to something we feel is worth having and waiting for can elicit. You are definitely right, however, rudeness is never the answer and makes everyone feel bad. "Fault" isn't really the word I would be using, either, since you didn't lead the Friday buyer on on purpose; you forgot, it happens. It's as you said: Such is life! And unless people start to make an effort to look at things from the other person's perspective, that will never change for the better.

Yeah, it was quite a while ago and I was lucky that the elbow was only broken in two places and not shattered. It healed up fine, thank you. :) I really need my hands for work and for hobby, and that includes the ability to move my arms properly. They put games on my PC! *nods emphatically*
