There are different types of intelligence. First and most commonly known is intellectual. It is basically the capacity of thought and knowledge. One who is intelligent has the ability to think on grand levels. They are able to perceive things and utilize that information. They are often creative and able to understand cause and effect with all of its fine nuances. Often they are called "great thinkers". Their minds can expand to encompass large amount of information such as the emotions of many and how one action will effect the whole. They can see the bigger picture. They many be in business or in the humanities. We hope and trust our doctors and politicians fall into this category. We may not understand all of what they do, the reasons why, but we are able to trust in them that they might know something we don't. In that trust, we know they are intelligent enough to not intentionally hurt and cause damage. That is classic respect. They are of value and worth. Many people teach that respect is the signs of respect like calling a teach Mr. or Mrs. Those actions, the loving tender treatment of such is what we do for something we value not really the respect its self. Any intelligent person understands that.
One can be considered intelligent if they gain vast amounts of knowledge. But just gaining large amounts of knowledge in and of its self is not intelligence. A parrot and spit memorized words back at you. A large vocabulary does not make it intelligent. If it can not utilize the information it speaks or seems to know it is dumb as hell. Most of us have meant someone who is a math genius or seems to have a photogenic memory etc. Then when we get to know them we learn they are so phucking dumb they can't tie their shoes and easily get lost walking around the block. For all intensive purposes they are useless. Sometimes even appearing mentally retarded. A one hit wonder.
Then there is emotional intelligence. The following definition is from psychologytoday.com

That is NOT an all inclusive of what emotional intelligence is but it gives you a good brief idea. The great thinkers would obviously have to have a high level of emotional intelligence. If not, they would not be expanding their minds and encompassing the large amounts of information. To be of high emotional intelligence does not mean one can not be hurt. It also doesn't not mean that if someone were to levy a war against them that they would not engage and defend self. There are no rules or emotions in war. The only goal is to destroy. Any truly intelligent person understands this as well.
Should a truly intelligent person wage a war, intentionally hurt and cause damage, we no longer see them as intelligent in any form. We lose all respect for them.
Sometimes, a game is far more than just a game. Intelligent people also understand that. Its what makes them good game makers and good gamers.
