The season of spookiness is just around the corner, so I was wondering if there would be a Halloween contest?

Its not really a big thing in my country, but dress up parties are definitely trending in 2016. This Halloween I will be attending a "sing star" party, you have to dress up as a star and also perform a song (lip sync is optional).  I think its such a rad idea!!! Obviously I will be doing a Lady Gaga song and I have been doing some real creative research on the perfect costume this year.  My friend (who will be hosting this year) has already started building a stage and it will be a very red-carpet VIP sort event! I'm so stoked for this party! My BFF will be doing a stunning Prince performance and we have been practicing all week, we want to win the award for best entertainer of the night!

What are you up to on Halloween this year? Do you celebrate this festive day?

xoxo

Halloween is a very big event in my local town.  People decorate their houses in stunning detail.  When my children were young I would take them to the wealthy neighborhood's just to see the artful displays.  Some even go so far as to have open parties inside their house for the children and parent's.  There is 8 different haunted houses to go to.  One is actually an entire sugar factory that was converted into a haunted house.  That one is by far the most scary, and not recommend for children.  Corn Mazes are also extremely popular for the families to go to.  They are massive here.  Some being up to 5 mile's long.  These event's are already up and running and cost about the same as a typical movie ticket.

This year I will just be on patrol detail on the 31st.  There is never any problems though in this small town, so I will just be doing a lot of driving and watching/sightseeing.  It's not as dull as it sounds however.  We keep candy in our car's and children like to show us the costumes and trick or treat us too, when they see us parked in our offical cars. It's become sort of a tradition.  The local police like to make themselves very visible, to insure that everyone has a safe and happy Halloween.      I volunteered this year as a reservist, so that full time-officers with young children could be with their families.  My car is actually painted as a fire services car, so it catches the attention of the children very well.  So I'm dressing up as a fire-woman, obviously.

Halloween has landed in my country, Finland, around eighties or nineties, so it's rather new thing here. People dress up as something and go to horror-themed parties or other events. Lots of Halloween-themed ornaments and food are sold in stores, but there's no trick or treat tradition here. (It's something that happens during Easter, kids dress up as witches wishing good health and then ppl give them candies..)
We do have an all hallows eve, this year it's 6th of Nov, then people light candles to remember their closest who have passed away.
But in our original culture the time between Oct and Nov was called Kekri, which reminds a lot of Samhain, the feast of celts. That was a time of magic, divination, playing, eating and dancing, burning of Kekri goat and all sorts of pagan activities.

Personally I'm not so much into Halloween and I do not necessary plan anything beforehand. Sometimes I go to cinema where they show horror movies, sometimes I go to grave yard to see the candles in the dark and sometimes I wear a costume if I feel like it. This year I have not yet planned anything either, I see what comes ahead and do what I feel like doing..

I think it would be interesting to see how Finland mixes the Pagan aspect's of Halloween.  In America  it is generally like Easter but with costumes.
Easter is the religious holiday (Christian) So Easter is : Little girls in Beautiful dresses and Boy's in suit's searching for hidden eggs in gardens and such.
Spring time pictures and families having picnics.
I don't know why Halloween became a remembrance of the Dead in America.  I'm not even sure if that is a correct statement of what the holiday is really about, because we have a Memorial Day too.  Yet even that is really just the first day to go camping in the spring.
Halloween is just the only day anyone can just dress up to be whatever they want to be, and not be looked at as an idiot.
It would be better named as 'Fantastic Day'.   Adult women love doing the 'Sexy Nun'  thing, or dress like prostitutes, and go to bar's.
Little kid's dress like super-hero's and movie/cartoon star's.  A time to just be someone different, than you are all year around. And eat all the candy you can till you get sick.
[ Adult's drink and eat cupcake's to the same point of illness]
It is a very fun holiday to be sure,  and I personally love seeing people in costumes. It's so fun seeing people able to let their creativity shine without any judgment give by the normally prudish sensibilities and religious conviction's making them into conformist's.  The rest of the year is reserved for that.

I don't usually do anything on Halloween. I never even get trick or treaters. Add on the fact I have to go to work that night so I'm not really celebrating.

I wish I could decorate my home, but being so rural it is pointless.   Year-round my home is spooky to everyone, and none dare enter without an invitation.
wuhahahahahaaaaaa
Working is my best option too, to enjoy the ghost's and goblins.  :)

It seems silly, to dress up in my 'normal rescue' clothes for a holiday.  However I don't normally go 'full gear' most of the year.  I am a specialist, and only called in a few time's a year for major disaster's.  It is fun for me to be an inspiration to young girls, and even the boy's find it thrilling to play with my flashlights, beacons,GPS, car light's and sirens.   When dressed up in full gear, it does provide a sense of the future possibilities for both sexes. My gear is bright and reflective, and inspires safety. I am a public servant.

Halloween is not just a day to 'pretend' but can inspire the future leaders of my nation.
Adult's don't need inspiration, and they tend to see it as " How they failed to live up to their own values."

Thus the 'creepy clown theme, kidnapping children from bus stops.'   This is a current trend in America made popular by social media.
Even Jackie's son( age 9) just a few day's ago expressed to me how much he is afraid of clowns, because of all the media attention being placed on such a foolish fear.   Even collages are now offering counseling to student's afraid of Halloween costumes.

University of Florida offers counseling for students 'troubled' by Halloween costumes

American youth are truly afraid of even being alive.
Yet the fear was made by the cell phone's and social media, in the first place they trust as being the absolute true source of information about a real world. ['Stupid NON sighting's' of creepy clown's, by stupid people]

Now the phenomenon of 'creepy clown's is going world wide'.  Yet the truth has been proven to be 'copy-cat monsters' acting out a social media dysfunction by the users who seek to be evil.  So far no actual children have been kidnapped in America by creepy clowns.....
Yet the seeds of fear has been placed into the mind's of even the children I love the most.
If this 'trending topic' continues, it will eventually happen.  Social media inspires insanity in people seeking a moment of fame in a headline.

Interestingly enough was also why I chose to be a 'reservist-officer' this year too.  The joy of a holiday I felt safe as a young child, is not safe for the children I now am responsible for.   I love Jackie's children and they will be guest's of honor with me.  Small town life grant's me such privileges.
I Love them enough to wear my helmet and a very real 9mm weapon, and make them so proud to be with me in my car.......

Leaving you with this Quote: [One school district in Connecticut was also cracking down on clown costumes after the “killer clown” fear that has plagued cities nationwide. The district prohibited clown costumes and any “symbols of terror” for Halloween outfits.]
So much for childhood fun in the age of social media.....   A Pity :(

Who is deciding what a symbol of terror is?   LOLROF   It is totally foolish, in my opinion.
I hate spiders.    Spider-man should be BANNED.  Just joking, but I now need counseling.......
America is more disgusting than spider's, and I can say that with total honesty.

People should fear their own cell phone's more than the plague. Chipped and tracked, and recorded.
Your every movement, photo and text, is a governmental, public record.
Instead of fear, you should delight in being fooled into thinking it is how you must survive.
So fear your own insecurities......TRICK OR TREAT?   Halloween? Or life?
Both are filled with horror and both self-inflicted.

^ This Creepy Clown trend has landed here too. Taking lot of media attention these days. Just today the news wrote about Some kids not more than 12 years old who were frightening some older girls who got hold of them and took them back home where the police was already expecting these little rascals :)
And another story about a creepy clown who was attacked by a dog who's master the clown was trying to scare. These news are just from today, the creepers have been in the domestic news for month or two now. Stupid trend.

There's this Finnish underground group called "Loldiers of Odin". The group is sort of counter attack to S.O.O "Soldiers of Odin" -anti-immigrant/neo-nazi street patrol group which the Loldiers are trying to make ridiculed. Loldiers dress up as silly and kind clowns so this creepy clown stuff could have some negative effects for the anti-fascist campaign. Below: A brave Loldier and S.O.O-idiots
